Two weeks ago my 11 year old red headed daughter and I thoroughly cleaned out her bedroom. We decluttered her bedroom and went through all her drawers and closet. I recently recommitted to FlyLady’s easy to follow, decluttering and cleaning program and have been on a decluttering mission.
I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t gone through my daughters closet and drawers in years! Being the youngest of my 3 daughters, she had a ton of clothes that didn’t fit, hand-me-downs from the other girls, her large closet was basically the place clothes went that didn’t fit anyone. We ended up donating four large garbage sacks of name brand clothing to our local Hospice thrift shop, sacking up another two sacks of clothes for my brother’s girls and adding about 20+ pairs of jeans to my jean pile in my sewing room.
My Quilting Challenge
So here’s my challenge to myself, since I seem to work better under pleasure knowing that others will know if I didn’t make my goal. In the next 10 days, I plan on creating at least one, preferably two denim rag quilts out of the jeans from my daughters bedroom. I can’t promise these jean quilts are going to be pretty quilts as I’m going to go for speedy methods and plan on only using fabric I have on hand.
My husband works away from home 10 days at a time and he just went to work this morning so my time is mine for the next 10 days, aside from running the kids around and feeding them. My biggest distraction, of course will be getting online, which I’ll try to limit so I can accomplish my denim rag quilt goal. Not getting online will be hard on me since my other blogs have been neglected lately but I”m sure once the quilt or quilts are done, I’ll know it was worth it. I’ll take pictures along the way and post as I go. Tonight I plan on taking the jeans apart so they are ready to be cut up into pieces for my new denim quilt.
